Rosedale Abbey

Located in a valley in the centre of Rosedale, Rosedale Abbey is a village halfway between Castleton and Pickering. Set in an area of outstanding beauty, it is surrounded by stunning scenery and rolling hillside. The village has remained traditional and quaint with a collection of pubs, cottages and tea rooms as well as an art gallery and of course the village green. One of the tourist attractions in the area is the staircase, sundial and stone pillar that are left over from a Cistercian Priory which was originally founded on the spot in 1158. During t he 19th century, the villages infamous iron mining industry was establish, which saw the popular of the valley expand dramatically. One of the most loved walks in the area is the long distance path, The Abbey Trail. This walk links several beautiful abbeys including Lastingham, Byland, Kiskstall, Fountains and Rievalux amongst others. Many walkers do this trail whilst admiring the fantastic views and scenery the area has to offer.
